A Couple of New Loves

Possible spoilers ahead...

The Walking Dead

I enjoy a good zombie movie.  Dawn of the Dead is awesome, Night of the Living Dead is perfect and Return of the Living Dead just terrified me.  (I was a teenager and I TOTALLY fell for the Based on a True Story disclaimer.)  Shaun of the Dead is in a class of its own and it's an Honors class.  Anyhow, The Walking Dead is....different.  Sure, zombies are walking around trying to eat you but it's more about the human aspects of not only the non-zombies but the zombies as well.  For example, Sunday's episode, which I watched last night cause I'm old, really put that thought out there that the zombies were once people.  They had lives, stories to tell, just like you, and now they don't have that.  It affected me much more than the gory scene that had me dry heaving.  However, that scene, immediately following the oh, the zombie has/had a partner moment, gently reminded me that the show is about zombies so tread lightly.  If a Zombie Apocalypse is on your list of greatest fears and/or you have had the In Case Zombies Show Up Plan talk with your significant other, it's perfect for you and your partner.  In a nutshell, I love this show.  Watch it while there is zombie weather outside for extra oomfph.  Trust.

This site rocks.  If the Woot t-shirt of the day isn't doing it for you, head over here.  I purchased this shirt last week.  I am officially a t-shirt addict.  My apologies.

Live from NY, It's Saturday Night!

30 Rock was amazing last night. It was live and utterly hilarious and it was what I wish SNL could be one day (again); hysterically funny. I long for the days of Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock and, most certainly, the genius Phil Hartman. I wish I could share my favorite skits but I guess just saying that era was my favorite is all I can muster. Those early SNL with Belushi, Chevy, Gilda Radner, Eddie Murphy, etc. were great as well. Samurai Deli, the Blues Brothers (great movie btw) and Belushi's Olympic commercial for donuts are some of my favorites. Ah, good stuff.

30 Rock gave me hope even if the laughing audience threw me off since 30 Rock doesn't have a laugh track.

There is no reason, much less a tie-in to SNL and 30 Rock, with the following photo other than to showcase exactly what I walk into when I come home every day; A cat nap that I'm sure is well into its 6th hour. It's as if Logan McFatPants was playing with his toy and just decided to take a nap. That is a jerk move if I ever saw one.

If those 3 aren't in a pile then they are scattered. Bitty Girl may be on the counter passed out or on the table passed out. Apolo could be on the couch or under the table.

Notice Apolo's stumpy legs under the table with Bitty Girl nonchalantly wondering why I'm making such a big fuss when I clearly should be getting everyone some treats. She's a menace (II society) for tearing up all of my paper napkins that should be in their holder in the background. If there was a cat juvi, Bitty Girl would surely be in it.

Fall TV

You better watch my show, Anna Mae!

I'll admit it, I watch WAY too much TV. Watching it gets easier and easier especially since I can program my DVR from any computer. (Thank you, UVerse!) For example, I just programmed Glee cause I forgot to do it yesterday. Word.

What follows is what I plan on watching this fall. I may look bad after you read my programming. Be kind.

Monday

How I Met Your Mother

I really enjoy this show. You cannot go wrong with NPH but seriously, if they don't move the story along on how Ted met the mother then consider me gone. Ok, maybe not, but you consider yourself threatened, HIMYM.

The Event

I have no clue what this show is about but it's set to record. Well played, NBC. Your marketing worked.

Tuesday

Parenthood

I love Peter Krause and Lauren Graham and that crazy family so it's on. Damn you, Dax Shepard though.

Wednesday

The Middle and Modern Family

I enjoy the wittiness and freshness of these 2 shows. Congrats to Al Bundy for getting a job as well. ;)

Survivor

I believe I saw the first season of Survivor but because Jimmy Johnson (former head coach of the Dallas Cowboys) is a contestant, I may just cave and watch it. I look forward to pointing and laughing.

Thursday

Community

Joel McHale on The Soup is a genius and, after a bit of a rocky start, him and the entire cast of this beloved show found their niche. Last year's episode titled Modern Warfare is some of the funniest shit I have seen on TV in a really, really, really long time.

The Big Bang Theory

I adore this show. It's completely witty and well written and reminds me a little of my friends and their nerd tendencies. Jim Parsons as Sheldon is pure gold and he deserved that Emmy. Way to make Houston proud. :) The only problem I have though is, TBBT and Community will be, for the first time, going up against each other. No bueno. Which shall be watched live and which won't?

CSI

I can't quit this show especially since Laurence Fishburne joined to replace William Petersen. But, it's Cowboy Curtis, ok? I must.

Project Runway

I love a reality show that puts the emphasis on creativity. I love watching them think it out, design it and ultimately showcase their creative idea on the runway. Michael Kors, the Duchess, is awesome and Tim Gunn is everything. I managed to get the BNC hooked. Phase 1 = complete.

The Mentalist

It's entertaining to me and I cannot hate on things entertaining me.

Note: I have managed to lose interest in The Office, an old favorite. I hope they just end it already. I ocassionally watch 30 Rock but I had to make cuts.

Friday

I tend to use this day to watch some of the stuff I don't get around to watching during the week but this is subject to change as I have to get out and do stuffs. I don't watch everything I record right away and I have been known to have several episodes of whatever during the summer (with shows running Christmas episodes). Don't judge me.

Saturday

Same as Friday. If I'm home then I will make an honest attempt but I make no promises.

Sunday

It's football season and that takes priority over everything else cause it's football afterall. Dexter recently came into my life so I'll have to find a way to make this happen.

God bless DVR. I still don't know how I am going to make all this happen but that's what DVR and days off are for, right? Right?

Gordon Gartrelle

Quitting time for me is 4p and I'm usually walking into a 3-cat nap well into its 10th hour at 4:10p. First thing I do is turn on the TV; I cannot have complete silence. It's eerie to me. I usually let it run while I vacuum, Swiffer, feed and pet cats with eye crispies and make dinner. Sometimes, I am afforded sitting down and watching The Cosby Show reruns while a chicken roasts. Doing so has made me raise questions about Mr. Cosby and I have called many friends to discuss WTF is this man's problem.

For example:

There is an episode in which Martin, Denise's Navy husband, and Cliff, finally sit down, talk and get to know one another. Denise and Martin had eloped and Cliff inquired, on whether or not Denise was a virgin. He didn't directly ask but he got the message across to Martin. This is just beyond creepy. Sure, they don't directly mention it, etc. but creepy nonetheless.

Just check out the clip.

After the weird talk, you will notice the exterior shot of the house. This brings me to another example; the layout of the house. Usually in the opening, while the executive producer info shows up, an exterior shot of the house is shown mostly to indicate the next scene will be taking place in the house. Anyhow, it's an attached townhouse. ATTACHED. So why, in the the living room, behind the stairs, are there windows?

Check out the background.

It just bugs me. What gives?

I still love the show, not even gonna pretend to lie. I watched it when it aired that is, until The Simpsons showed up. At that point, The Cosby Show had grown stale and it was time to change the channel. But, no matter what, I will watch the reruns, even those bad episodes where Rudy was a teenager and it was just awkward all around much like I will still watch those final years of Roseanne and just lament on how it was actually really good. Then BAM! Yuck. They were both different from other shows on TV and had a lot going for themselves. Unfortunately, they didn't know when to call it quits. Regardless, my favorite episode has to be the Gordon Gartrelle episode. Theo hiring Denise to copy a designer shirt for him and what results afterwards is the best. I will always laugh and laugh whenever Theo, in his crackly, on-the-cusp-of-a-ball-dropping (Happy New Year!) voice, tell Denise, "Ask me the question again" after she asks, "You don't like it?" Pre-Project Runway!

1, 2, 3 and to the 4...

Wednesday, I completely forgot to watch Top Chef. The BNC and I had to meet up after work to officially make the changes to AT&T UVerse from Comcast. It's done and I eagerly await the installation next Wednesday. However, when did we get so busy? We had to meet up after work, in separate vehicles, to do this one thing? The weekends are usually booked up and the BNC tends to work on Saturdays even though lately he's been working on Sundays to push papers so that leaves us with little time to go and make decisions like this together.

I have routines. It may sound boring but I like a good routine. Keeps me in check and being 33 and a diabetic, it makes my life easier. I know what I can and cannot do and what I shouldn't do. I sleep early, eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, drink water and so forth. Basically, I live by the clock and I don't even wear a watch (though I have so many). It may seem boring but I know it's something I have to do. So, when I do something out of the norm, mainly done during the week, I'm thrown off. I didn't realize I missed Top Chef until 9p, bed time. Then again, I'm getting bored with the show. I watched Project Runway last night (now 90 minutes long) and WTF? Casanova stays?! Ugh. But, I'm going to watch it.

A friend of a friend is having a yard sale tomorrow to raise some funds for the husband's medical bills. He has acute leukemia. In all honesty, I carry guilt. My brother has chronic leukemia and seemingly walks around unaffected. Yet, the friend's husband has been in and out of the hospital for a while now. So, in a show of support, I'll be there cause if I had to, I'd give my life for my beloved brother. Buying other people's junk is the least I could do.

Just a Little Bit

Things that are annoying me at the moment:

  • Chris Evans getting to play Captain America. I think he was fine as the Human Torch, he played Johnny as it should have been. However, Chris Evans doesn't have much acting range which worries me when it comes to Captain America. Also, no way he should be allowed to play 2 superheroes let alone 2 Marvel characters. Fine, Ryan Reynolds is double dipping as well doing Deadpool and the Green Lantern but I can let it slide because it's Ryan MFing Reynolds. I still dream about where that tattoo may have ended in Blade Trinity. Besides, Deadpool is Marvel and the Green Lantern is DC.
  • Amanda on Top Chef. She is a dumbass. Sherry used for braising chicken thighs meant to feed school children? Then attacking the other team during Judges's Table? Girl, please.
  • Rain. It's raining here again and a mini river flows down my sidewalk. No like.
  • My camera. It's been copping an attitude with me for a while but I will continue to keep it and use it while I do some research on my next camera.

Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest. That's all I got, for now.

Dance Your Cares Away

I had a great weekend up in North East Texas. We went to the T-Bone Walker Blues Festival where we melted under the Texas sun. My SS was running the beer garden, a tiny area blocked off from the rest of the festival. Apparently, the county is a dry one and alcohol sales are incredibly stringent. I don't drink so I really don't care. I was all about getting into the hospitality suite, eating yummy food that was bad for me, such as the funnel cake even if I only ate 1/4 of it, and just meltinggggg. It was HOT but we had a good time. Great music and even better company.

Zac Harmon

Hot but gorgeous views

Moo cow!

And, I got to take my 6-year baby to her karate class and cry.

We managed to take the kids to see Toy Story 3 and while The Boy or, as I refer to him, Baby Juggernaut who wears an extra wide shoe, took a nap, The Girl sat silently throughout the movie nudging me whenever she wanted popcorn or a drink from her cup. She has arrived. Back to Toy Story 3, I urge you to watch it. That is all.

And, speaking of things I love, Amazon has the complete series of Fraggle Rock as the Deal of the Day for only $37.49. B and I adored this show as kids and I'm sure if I call him to tell him about it, he will remember it with a smile and exclaim, "Oh yea, great show!" Shockingly, the BNC was never a fan. He also isn't a fan of The Goonies and let me tell you, it was almost grounds for a divorce. WTF at not liking The Goonies?!

Down at Fraggle Rock!

Summer TV-Food Edition

Top Chef started last night and at a much appreciated, and welcome, earlier hour. 8p!! My eyelids, as well as the little old lady living inside me, are happy. They're in DC now and that intrigues me very much. What didn't was Cheftestant John with the dreadlocks. All I could imagine was eating dinner and finding a dread inside. Good thing he's gone otherwise it just would have bugged me. But, we have Padma's big boobs to distract you from the yummy food and Chef Eric Ripert. Almost.

What if at a key moment in the game, my uniform bursts open and, uh, oops, my bosoms come flying out?

You think there are men in this country who ain't seen your bosoms?

I still watch Hell's Kitchen since Gordon Ramsay is a guilty pleasure though I wish the American Kitchen Nightmares were more like the British version. I no longer watch the American version. However, what's this? Another Ramsay show? Master Chef? Nice. I will give it a whirl.

The Next Food Network Star with Susie, Bobby, Bob and now Mentor Giada. Drama in the kitchen is always welcome just not in my kitchen.

What am I missing?

Lost

6 years later and some answers are left unanswered and I'm ok with that. So, yes, I watched the finale and I was awestruck at how much I felt for this show, the characters, the story, the experience. I cannot say I was disappointed. Instead I feel a range of emotions consisting of relief, happiness, confusion, acceptance and sadness. WTF am I going to watch on Tuesdays now? Glee of course cause I totally cried at last week's episode.
So, I'm good. Thank you Lost for hooking me in 6 years ago. What a mindfuck and I loved it, except for that 1 season where it wasn't that good but no where near what Heroes became. I saw you through. Heroes can sit on it.

The One in Which Bitty-Girl Gives Me The Ojo

First, an explanation on The Ojo, The Eye. In Mexican folklore, The Ojo, pronounced o-HO, is when someone gives you bad luck simply by looking at you with meaness such as envy, hate, just general meaness. The recipient of The Ojo then has bad luck or, in severe cases, comes down with a illness that includes fever and all around bad yuckiness. Usually you have to cure it by having someone of devout faith rub an egg all over you and then cracking the egg into water. If the inside of the egg is red, or just looking like needles in the water, you had The Ojo. Mexicans and their beliefs; Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Anyhow, I believe Bitty-Girl gave me The Ojo last night. But then again, she may have just wanted a taste of dinner.

"I can haz dinner?"

Dinner was steak with mashed potatoes.

I'm on the prowl to get an indoor smokeless grill because getting the outdoor grill ready for just 2 steaks in Houston humidity is crazy. I went to get my mail yesterday (Netflix!) and oy. I hate the humidity of Houston and it's only going to get worse. The thunderstorms we received this past weekend do not help. Back to the steaks, flank steaks, were broiled in the oven causing a bit of heat build-up as well as some smoke coming out of the vents from the stove. You may have noticed the lack of a veggie on my plate and while I did make some asparagus for the BNC, I don't eat many veggies. Yes, I know but hey, I'm in therapy and well, it comes up. Looking at the photo, a demi-glace would have been nice.

So, yea, Lost last night. Yowza! The finale is this Sunday and I'm excited to finally see this show through. No spoilers from me.

Weekend Plans

I adore this photo of Apolo and Logan. They sleep together, fight together and most certainly eat together.
Logan is the alpha male of the bunch. He's also cross-eyed which has something to do with the little siamese in him. He's a great cat but doesn't know the concept of personal space.
So, this weekend includes trying to spend time with them. I know they miss me especially but I know I can count on them to share the couch with some Netflix (current rentals include The Wire).
The BNC has a show tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it especially, especially, especially since I don't have to get on the freeway to get there. I love that. Bonus: It's about 3 blocks from my parent's house which means I park there and walk over. My older brother is supposed to go with me.
The rest of the weekend gets played by ear and I hope that means some DVR time like Lost, Project Runway and Top Chef Masters.

Coooooookie Crisp

I love me some cereal. Cookie Crisp anyone? Community mentioning it made me buy it last week. I really, really, really hope that this week has new episodes. I want me some Jeff Winger!
ps....still having issues with my camera. This is my iPhone.
